A Soundwalk Through History: Encounter the hidden stories of Picts, Jacobites, and Water Beasties that creates an intriguing walking and listening experience.

Tales o Fowk & Water Beasties is a soundwalk through history that blends story with sound to create an intriguing walking and listening experience. This slow-guided walk in Aberlour drifts between the Parish Church and the ancient ruins of the Auld Kirk o Skirdustan. An opportunity to encounter the hidden stories of Picts, Jacobites, and Water Beasties. The soundwalk follows a circular route in a picturesque place, from Aberlour, River Spey, and Lour Burn. This unusual event allows walkers to listen to a mix of History, Myths, and Legends to a background of sound that brings the storytelling to life.

Tales o Fowk & Water Beasties is a creative collaboration between local storyteller Ben Hinnie and The Moray Way Association’s artist in residence, Lise Olsen. They have worked together to create a soundwalk through history, produced for the Moray Walking and Outdoor Festival.

Lise is one of NINE artists from the Arts in Moray (AIM) CULTURE COLLECTIVE Programme funded by Creative Scotland and is the Moray Way Artist in Residency. You can find out more about Lise’s residency through her blog and the Culture Café website.

The slow walk is along a circular route, over easy terrain, woodland and riverside pathways. The route is unfortunately not suitable for mobility scooters as we cross the suspension bridge. A good pair of walking shoes or boots are recommended. Also, extra care is needed when walking as listening to sounds on headphones can be distracting.
