We shall walk a circular route, probably anti-clockwise, from the bird-hide carpark (G.R. NJ 053633), 300 mtrs south of the Findhorn Ecopark entrance. We shall stop ocasionally.

Robert the Bruce granted Kinloss Abbey the fishing rights of Findhorn Bay. Tidal fish traps (yairs) were set up in the Bay by the monks. Remnants of these will be seen.

In addition, the opportunity will be taken to see other industrial archaeological items, namely a Zulu fishing boat wreck from the late 19th century and the remains of Drem navigation lights from the Second World War.

All these remains are only revealed at very low tides. The low tide selected is the most suitable one during the MWOF, when Low Water is at about 10:20 hrs.

The going underfoot is firm, wet, sand with occasional ankle / shin deep pools. This low tide has been chosen because it is very low.

Footwear will get wet. Knee length wellington boots should be sufficient to keep feet dry. We shall cross the Mosset Burn but not the River Findhorn.

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied.

Dogs are unsuitable because they would need to be on a lead because of the birds.

The organiser will be there early to ensure that parking is not a problem. There is an extension to the carpark down a concrete track on the south side of the obvious bird-hide carpark.

There are no lavatories at the start.

Suncream and sensible clothing advised to avoid sunburn. The walk is exposed to the elements.

There are no ‘resting places’. Bring a ‘shooting’ stick or similar, if you need to take a rest.

There will be a briefing at the start.
