Free for MWA members, this is a short, informative, circular walk through farmland, woods & along quiet country roads with some local history thrown in for good measure.

Bring a snack & your binoculars as we will take a break mid-way round the walk to enjoy stunning views across the Moray Firth .

Starting & ending in Rafford, the outbound route is uphill, a long but gradual incline along farm tracks & grass footpaths, until we reach the viewpoint at Califer. Then it’s all downhill back to Rafford along a quiet minor road.

Want to come along for free but not a MWA Member? Well, it is easy & free to join -click here >  Become a Member.

Please note that some early sections can be muddy after rain.

By June, the ferns & grasses along parts of the route will have shot up. I will go out to cut back foliage beforehand, but in some sections, you are still likely to be walking among tall ferns, nettles & grasses. So, to minimise the chance of getting stings or tick bites, you might consider wearing clothing that covers your arms & legs. But, obviously, what you decide to wear is up to you. Also, the farm tracks can be muddy after rain, so please wear appropriate footwear.
