SUMMARY:The Steplar to Glenlivet
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS \n  \nJoin the Rangers from Dorenell Ranger Service and Glenlivet Ranger Service for a walk along the Steplar track from the Cabrach to Glenlivet. We’ll park at the finish point in Glenlivet and be transported by coach to the start at the Steplar trailhead in the upper Cabrach. The route will follow Moray core path SP30 heading up to Dead Wives Hillock and crossing the Blackwater river. It traverses Dorenell wind farm then takes in views across to the Cairngorms before following the Suie Burn down to the River Livet and out to Glenlivet. \nAlong the route the Rangers will talk about the Cultural and Natural History of the area and will be on hand to point out any wildlife along the route which could include Red Deer and various birds of prey including Golden Eagles and White-tailed Eagles.\nAlthough starting off through fields\, the route is mainly rough land rover tracks with two fairly steep ascents. There is larger river crossing towards the beginning of the walk so walkers should come prepared for potentially wet feet.

SUMMARY:Cycle to Elf House Cave and McHardy Stone
DESCRIPTION:Join the Dorenell Rangers for a Mountain bike ride from the Glenfiddich trailhead up to Glenfiddich Lodge\, Elf House Cave and the McHardy Stone. We will be cycling at a leisurely pace to give us time to take in our surroundings and keep an eye out for some of the elusive wildlife along the way. This can include Red Deer\, Mountain Hare\, Merlin and Golden Eagles. \nWe will be riding on a mix of tarmac roads\, smooth tracks and some rougher landrover tracks with small river crossings and suitable for more confident cyclists. \nIf you would like more information on the tracks’ suitability\, please contact Dorenell Ranger Service. \nWe will pause at Elf House cave for lunch before taking a look at the hard-to-find McHardy stone before heading back the way we came in.

We will have the opportunity to view the outside of Glenfiddich and Blackwater Lodges but we will not be going inside as they are unsafe. \nThe walk will mostly be on rough tracks with some muddy sections towards the end. The route can be quite exposed\, so come prepared with appropriate clothing and plenty of food. \nAll profits of the walk will be going to Prostate Cancer UK

SUMMARY:Lecht Mine & Scalan Seminary Loop
DESCRIPTION:Starting at the Lecht Mine Car Park\, we will walk a loop visiting the Lecht Mine before climbing the shoulder of Carn Dulack and crossing to the summit of Tom Trumper. From here\, we will descend through the Crofts of Scalan to the Seminary. After a look around the grounds and a bite to eat\, we will head south through the Clash of Scalan\, once again crossing Carn Dulack and descending back towards our starting point. \nThe Lecht Mine was originally opened by the York Buildings Company of London as an iron ore mine in 1730 and has an interesting history. While the secluded building of Scalan (from the Gaelic sgalan\, meaning turf roof) was once a seminary (a college for training priests) and was one of the few places in Scotland where the Catholic faith was kept alive during the troubled times of the 18th century. \nThis is an excellent opportunity to experience two historic sites in one walk\, crossing typical north-east Scotland hill and moorland territory and getting a taste of what it was like to live in the Braes of Glenlivet in the not too distant past. There is also a good chance that we might see some moorland birds and deer. \nThe walk will be on a mix of rough track and heather moorland\, involve some fairly steep climbs and take us into the remote\, exposed country. Please be prepared with appropriate clothing and plenty of food and water.

SUMMARY:LDWA Taster Walk -A Tour of Forres
DESCRIPTION:This is a taster walk for people who are interested in joining the North of Scotland Long Distance Walkers Association. Come along and meet some of our regular members on a tour around Forres. \nWe are a local group of the Long Distance Walkers Association serving a large area in the north of Scotland\, roughly everything north of a line between Aberdeen and the Isle of Mull\, including the Western Isles\, Orkney and Shetland \nWe not only welcome members and guests from our area but also visitors from further afield to this far-flung corner of the country which offers so much in the way of walking in areas steeped in whisky and wildlife\, history and culture\, geology\, landscape and sport. \nWe offer our members at least one group walk each month advertised in Strider (the LDWA magazine)\, and aim to have some social walks in-between advertised on our local group page. Our walks are being specially planned to offer participants a range of walking experiences from coast to Corbett and from river to glen. \nAs well as social walks\, we put on two challenge walks each year: Heldon Hill Sunset Walk and the Laich o’Moray 50-mile challenge in October.
