The Old Military Road
Tue, 16 June 2020 @ 10:00 - 14:00
A history walk over an extant section of the Old Military Road, built by the government to quell the Highlands following the 1745 rebellion.
This walk follows the course of the post-1745 Wade Military Road, as it crossed from Grantown-on-Spey towards Fort George. The first uphill stage provides one of the most attractive approaches to Dava Moor and leads over potentially boggy moorland to the ruined croft at Anabord. A firmer track leads to a short road section and the remains of Heatherbell cottage, following which a further moorland section leads to the Dava Way and the Dava Schoolhouse.
Depending on weather during the preceding weeks, the first stage may be fairly wet underfoot, so come in stout footwear.
Please note that a bowl of soup and cake at the Schoolhouse is included in the walk price
