Nature Writing Woodland Workshop

Sat, 18 September 2021 @ 09:00 - 12:00

A walk in the woods is a great way to inspire your nature writing. This circular walk involves a gentle stroll and writing workshop in beautiful Roseisle Forest, Burghead.

The natural world is an endless source of inspiration for wildlife writer and photographer Rebecca Gibson. Join her as she walks around Roseisle Forest, starting and finishing in beautiful Burghead.

This three-hour event will involve a leisurely stroll through the woods, keeping an eye out for any passing wildlife. Participants will be encouraged to notice not just the sights but also the sounds, textures and smells of their surroundings. Nature writing is most immersive when it involves all the senses.

During the walk there will be a nature writing workshop, using creaking pines, chirruping goldcrests and prickly gorse as sensory prompts. If anyone has any questions for Rebecca about writing or wildlife, she’d be happy to answer them. Participants can read out what they’ve written if they’d like to, but there’s absolutely no pressure to share. Afterwards, the group will make their way back through the forest, hopefully feeling refreshed and inspired.

Please arrive at the start point at 8:45am so any parking issues can be sorted out before the event begins at 9am.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome but should not distract participants from the writing workshop or interfere with any wildlife.

There is no difficult terrain on the route and the main paths are either gravel or flat earth/sand. The forest can be hilly so there may be some short inclines, but as there are so many different trails to choose from the route can be adjusted slightly if this is an issue.

Bring along a notebook or voice recorder to make notes during the walk.

Rebecca would like to take photos during the event to write about the workshop on her blog. If you do not want to be photographed, please let Rebecca know.
