Dorenell Visitor Centre to Blackwater Lodge
Sat, 19 June 2021 @ 09:00 - 13:00
A guided walk in to Blackwater Lodge led by the Dorenell Ranger Service. We will talk about the work of Dorenell Ranger Service with the chance to spot wildlife along the route.
This is a repeat of our evening walk on Wednesday where we will walk to Blackwater Lodge following the waymarked trail from the Dorenell Visitor Centre. The walk will take us through farmland, forestry and open moorland, following the Black Water River and ultimately crossing it to reach Blackwater Lodge. The Lodge itself is unsafe to enter but it is still an impressive building to view from the outside and a suitable spot for a picnic dinner. We will then retrace our steps back to the Visitor Centre.
Along the way, we will look out for Red Deer, Black Grouse, Hen Harriers and Golden Eagles so be sure to bring some binoculars with you. We will also have good views looking out over the Devron valley and may be able to see the Cairngorms in the distance.
Throughout the walk, we will talk about the work of the Ranger Service including environmental education, bog restoration on Glenfiddich estate and our project to satellite tag Golden Eagles.
