Join writer and climber, Anna Fleming for a talk on the nature of rock climbing. Sharing extracts from her forthcoming book, she reveals how climbing brings a close relationship to place through embodied contact with the natural world. A regular at Cummingston, she describes her own experiences of climbing on the Moray sandstone, bringing in geological and cultural histories of the local stone to explore how this rock shapes life and landscape.
Anna Fleming is a writer, academic and climber. Her work has been published in The Guardian and Waymaking: An Anthology of Women’s Adventure Writing. She holds a PhD on William Wordsworth, examining how the people of the Lake District inspired his poetry. Her debut book Time on Rock: A Climber’s Route into the Mountains will be published with Canongate in spring 2022.
